LSAW’s committees are where much of the Association’s work happens. From legislative advocacy and professional standards to education, outreach, and member engagement, committees provide members with an opportunity to help shape the future of the surveying profession in Washington. Chairs & LiaisonsCommittee Chairs and Liaisons are appointed by the President, ratified by the Board of Directors and provided specific charges to meet the goals, objectives, and mission of the association. Legislative Committee
Monitors legislative and regulatory issues affecting the surveying profession, develops policy recommendations, and helps coordinate LSAW’s advocacy efforts with lawmakers and regulatory agencies. The Legislative Committee is comprised of a cross-section of public and private members, geographically distributed to represent the entire state. Click here to learn more about LSAW advocacy.
Awards Committee
The Awards Committee consists of past award recipients. Each year, at its annual meeting, LSAW may elect to honor one of its members as “Outstanding Surveyor” and another as "Outstanding Associate". It is not mandatory that either award be presented annually. If justified, one individual will be honored annually in each category. Click here to download awards criteria and nomination form. Board of Registration Liaison
LSAW maintains a liaison with the Washington Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (BRPELS). The liaison provides the LSAW Board of Directors updates on matters affecting professional licensure and regulation and carries approved information back to BRPELS.
Bylaws Committee
Reviews and recommends updates to the Association’s governing documents to ensure they remain current, effective, and aligned with LSAW’s mission. Click here to download the LSAW bylaws.
Conference Committee
The LSAW Conference is held annually and provides both professional development and networking opportunities.
DNR Survey Advisory Board (SAB) Liaison
LSAW maintains a liaison with the Department of Natural Resources Survey Advisory Board. The liaison provides the LSAW Board of Directors updates on matters affecting the survey profession and carries approved information back to the SAB.
Education Committee
The Education Committee is charged with maintaining communication with the land surveying colleges and universities. The committee makes recommendations to the LSAW Board of Directors on ways to support surveying education programs and helps strengthen the pipeline of future surveying professionals.Evergreen State Surveyor
The Evergreen State Surveyors (ESS) magazine is printed and mailed to LSAW members and is also available electronically. Foundation Liaison
LSAW maintains a liaison with the LSAW Foundation. The liaison provides a crucial link between the two organizations.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee evaluates member needs, recommends improvements to member benefits, and develops strategies to recruit, engage, and retain members. Click here to learn more about current member benefits.
Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee is Chaired by the Immediate Past President and three additional Directors of their choosing. The committee is charged with recruiting qualified leaders to serve as elected Officers to ensure strong leadership for the future of the Association.
Prevailing Wage Committee
The Prevailing Wage Committee monitors prevailing wage issues affecting surveying services and provides information and recommendations to the Board regarding policy and compliance matters. Click here to view the most current prevailing wage map.
NSRS Committee
The NSRS Committee tracks developments related to the National Spatial Reference System (NSRS), geodetic control, and modernization initiatives that affect surveying practice. The committee is also charged with developing educational information regarding the implementation of the 2022 datum.
Outreach Committee
The LSAW Strategic Plan emphasizes outreach and workforce development. The Outreach Committee identifies ways to promotes the surveying profession through public education, student engagement, career awareness activities, and community outreach programs. In addition, the Workforce Development Sub-Committee is charged with development of mentorship programs, job shadow opportunities and the like to recruit, retain, and mentor emerging professionals.NSPS Director
As an affiliate member of the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS), LSAW appoints a representative that serves on the NSPS Board of Directors. The Director attends NSPS meetings ensuring Washington surveyors have a voice in national discussions and initiatives.
WFPS Director
LSAW is a founding member of the Western Federation of Professional Surveyors (WFPS), LSAW appoints a representative that serves on the WFPS Board of Directors. The Director attends WFPS meetings ensuring Washington surveyors have a voice in regional discussions and initiatives.
